Day – 10

ITALY

WORKSHOP: “Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Education”

The aim of Italy’s workshop was to demonstrate how the creativity, the education methods and entrepreneurship are linked as a trinomial. The ideas are very important resources we need to invest on to develop education. Transform innovative ideas into action is definitely one of the strengths of entrepreneurship. Is important to use an educational approach to encourage the development of creativity and to provide new skills applicable in a business contexts that make you competitive in the international economic market.

Have been considered the different types of creativity: the main features of the creative person, the different types of thinking (divergent and convergent), the importance of educative approaches and how these methods encourage the development of the creativity in each child (like the Montessori’s method) and the entrepreneurship education linked to the innovation’s concept.

In the second part of our workshop, participants have implemented the “Dreamland”, a method of innovative thinking to develop creativity: you roll a dice that has on its faces the target you have to elaborate. The combinations that emerge from the dice roll become the basis of brainstorming that should lead to the solution to realize your project.

LECTURE: “Education, creativity and Gender”

During this lecture has been presented “Reggio Emilia Approach”, an educational philosophy focused on preschool and primary education. This approach believes that children are individual and have social rights. They are both source and constructors of their own experience and active participants in the organization of their identities and abilities. They need an interactive relationship with their ideas, peers, environment and teachers.

Then the lecture has showed how you can apply the basic educational assumptions of the Reggio Creativity into analysing a specific theme: that of gender in terms of educating at differences.

The main aim is to show you effect of mis-use of creativity in social development. And how, on the other hand, we can improve social understanding and the development of human liberties and rights through an effective use of creativity.

Creativity is a very important resource and, particularly within mass media, it can contribute in promoting an idea of tolerance and dialogue between genders, yet, it can also inhibit factors of social development by reinforcing gender stereotypes. In schools, teaching should include issues related to the education of gender equality, in order to eliminate bias and stereotypes that, starting at an early age, can be a basis for discrimination: gender-based violence is a consequence of inequality. Violence against women is a manifestation of historical inequality in relationships between men and women. It is a cultural, social and political phenomenon. Combating violence against women also consists in the appropriate representation of women in all spheres of society and in the non-sexist use of language, in order to promote a respectful relationship and a fair level of power between women and men.
